Anna Nordman (Sveinsson)
Anna Nordman passed away in the early evening of December 24, 2013 at the Baldur Health Centre.
Anna was born Margaret Anna Sveinsson on August 19, 1924 to John and Sigurveig Sveinsson at the family farm (NE 6-6-14) in the Glenboro District in Manitoba. In February, 1933, the family moved to Baldur, MB. Anna attended Mimir School and Baldur School, and she took a stenographic course in Winnipeg, MB. In April, 1943, she returned to Baldur and began working for Carl Atkins, who was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Rural Municipality of Argyle and a partner in the law firm Schultz & Atkins.
On March 29, 1958, Anna married Wilbert Sigurdur Nordman of Cypress River, MB. They lived in Baldur and had a son, Donald, born on July 30, 1959.
In April, 1973, Anna was appointed Secretary-Treasurer of the Rural Municipality of Argyle. By taking correspondence courses and attending seminars, she completed the Manitoba Municipal Administrators’ Certificate Program. She retired in September, 1989.
Anna was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Baldur. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, played the organ, belonged to the Lutheran Ladies Aid, and served on the Church Board. After retirement, she joined the Baldur Hospital Aid.
Anna was predeceased by her husband Wilbert on December 25, 1999, and by her parents John and Sigurveig, her brothers Svein and Arni, and her sisters Marie, Unnur Fraterman and Sigrun Isberg. Anna is survived by her son Donald.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the Baldur Cemetery on Saturday May 10, 2014 at 2:00 PM. with Pastor Jason Zinko officiating.
