Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Grobb (Patsack)

Mary Elizabeth Grobb (Patsack)
The family is saddened to announce the passing of their Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Mary was born August 28, 1922 at Rossendale, Manitoba. She passed away at the Treherne Personal Care Home on Sunday August 10, 2014.

Mary leaves to mourn her passing her three daughters Doris Gordon of Gimli, Donna (John) Driedger of Gimli, Beverly DeSpiegelaere of Bruxelles; 7 grandchildren Shelli Paolucci, Dale (Paula Matikainen) Gordon, Mathew Driedger, Allison (Jordan) Hollins, Lianne (Jason) Gibson, Jason and Danton DeSpiegelaere: 8 great Grandchildren, Camilla & Massimo Paolucci, Miila Gordon, Annabelle, Josiah & Joshua Hollins, Taryn & Adley Gibson. She is also survived by one sister, Margaret Boak, sister-in-law Louise Patsack as well as numerous nieces, nephews & extended family. Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Edward (2000), son-in-law Gaby DeSpiegelaere (2011), sisters, Myrtle Morgan, Mae Carroll, & brothers Harold, Ben and James Patsack.

Mary was blessed with a long life. Mary’s family have fond memories of her helping Edward on the farm and tending to a large garden having ladies into their home for quilting as well as welcoming friends and family warmly into their home. The family is fortunate to enjoy many articles of her sewing in the form of quilts, as well as knitted or crotchet articles.

Mary was a past member of the Dove Rebekah Lodge, Olive United Church Women and Olive Hospital Guild. As a past member of the Canadian Women’s Army Corps., she had many fond memories of her friends made during her years of service.

Mary and Edward moved to the town of Treherne in 1983 and were blessed to have 54 years together. They travelled from one end of Canada to the other as well as to various places in the United States. Bus trips were a favorite and they particularly enjoyed their trip to Alaska. They were supportive Grandparents attending christenings, graduations, weddings and other important events. In 2001, Mary moved to the Legion Lodge, and enjoyed many evenings playing cards with the residents. Due to failing health, Mary moved to the Treherne
Personal Care Home in 2011, where she enjoyed the many activities provided.

A Celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Treherne United Church with Heather Grobb officiating. A family interment will take place in the Bethel Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made in Mary’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 824 Unit 3, 18th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 5B7 or to Central Plains Cancer Care, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie MB R1N 0K8.
