Obituary for Leo Matheus DeKezel

Leo Matheus DeKezel
Peacefully, with family by his side, Leo Matheus DeKezel of Baldur, passed away at the Baldur Personal Care Home on Saturday October 22, 2016 at the age of 81.

Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Myrna (nee Tosh) of 56 years, his sons Dan (Siggi) of Deloraine, Scott (Dianne) of Morris, daughters Roxanne (Ken) Lapointe of Ste Anne, and Penny (Greg) Johnson of Baldur as well as six grandchildren; Kiara DeKezel, Travis DeKezel, April (Oliver) Mau, Cody Lapointe, Josh, and Aislynne Johnson. Leo will also be remembered by his brothers Frank (Janet), Gerry, Norbert (Brenda) and Ronnie, sisters Gerarda Andries, Lorette Lussier, Madeline Rowley, Angela (Leon) Martens, and Elaine (Armand) Levreault, sisters-in-law Nita and Patsy DeKezel, Joy (Earl) Johnson, and Beverly (Harvey) Van Damme, as well as brother-in-law Allan (Doris) Tosh and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Jules and Cornelia (nee Grift), sisters Gertie Roels, and Marie Mauws, brothers Emile & Tony, sister-in-law Terry DeKezel, brothers-in-law Urban Roels, Charlie Mauws, Camille Cousins, Andy Andries & Alfred Rowley.

Leo was born in Swan Lake on September 16, 1935. He moved to a farm south of Baldur with his family at a young age and continued to make Baldur his home after his marriage to Myrna. He was a family man and spent many weekends and vacations camping and fishing with his family all throughout Manitoba during his years of working as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Leo enjoyed fishing, & watching his favorite sports teams on TV - the “Jets” & the “Bombers”, and he thoroughly enjoyed watching the local Baldur Regals. He was a man with a quiet demeanor and known for cracking a joke and giving those around him a good laugh.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff at the Baldur Personal Care Home for the exceptional care they provided to Leo. It is definitely these special people that turn the Care facility into a home for our loved ones.

A graveside service will be held at the Baldur Cemetery on Thursday October 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Friends that so desire, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Leo's memory to the Baldur Volunteer Enrichment Group, c/o RM of Argyle Box 40, Baldur MB, R0K 0B0, cheques payable to RM of Argyle with a notation specifying Baldur Volunteer Enrichment Group.

The Baldur Volunteer Enrichment Group provides funding for van rides, music therapy and entertainment for the residents of the Baldur Personal Care Home.
