Obituary for Ida Elizabeth Sanderson (Brown)
Passed away at the Treherne Hospital on Sunday January 29, 2017 at the age of 90 years, Ida Elizabeth Sanderson (nee Brown) of Holland, MB.
Ida leaves to mourn her passing her loving daughter Beth (Brian) Speiss, son Bob (Kathy), grandchildren Trevor Speiss (Britney Harder), Christopher (Britney) Morrish, Corey Morrish (Trish Fright), Michelle Morrish (Darren Donley) and six great grandchildren Caembry Morrish, Harley Morrish, Logan Fright-Morrish, Emmy Fright-Morrish, Maxine Fright-Morrish, and Zoey Donley. As well as brother & sister-in-law Ken & Elaine Sanderson and numerous nieces and nephews. Ida was predeceased by her husband Donald, parents Frank and Edna Brown (nee Breault), mother & father-in-law John & Frances Sanderson, brother Stewart Brown, as well as sister & brother-in-law Bill & Nan Sanderson.
Our mother was born at Baldur, MB on December 6, 1926. The first child to Edna (nee Breault) and Frank Brown.
She attended Wolseley, a rural school, and Baldur Collegiate Department. After completing her grade 12, she enrolled in Winnipeg Normal School, graduating with the class of '45. Her teaching career spanned six years, two at Homewood MB and four at Holland MB.
On July 14, 1951 mother married our father, Don Sanderson and for the next 59 years lived on the family farm Northwest of Holland.
It was on that farm we were raised; a daughter Elizabeth Dawn (Beth) and a son Robert Keith (Bob). As long as health permitted, mother devoted many volunteer hours to the work of her church (Holland United) and to the Holland Hospital Guild which served the Tiger Hills Health Centre in Treherne. Always hospitable, she loved to cook and entertain.
A charter member of the Country Quills, she enjoyed writing stories of places she and dad visited, of people they met, of happenings along the way. She researched the history of many ghost towns and wrote a series on the statues of Manitoba. Together, for 19 years, they published the newsletter for the Manitoba Chapter of the International Flying Farmers, an organization dear to their hearts.
In 2010, with the encouragement of members of her writing group, 71 of Ida E. Sanderson's stories were compiled and published in a book entitled "My Lane to Memories."
Funeral Services will be held on Friday February 3, 2017 at 3:00pm in the St. John Berchmans Catholic Church with Heather Grobb & Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service in the Holland Community Hall, followed by the interment at the Brookdale Cemetery. Everyone is welcome.
Friends that so desire, memorial donations can be made in Ida's memory to the Holland United Church Box 40 Holland, MB R0G 0X0, or to the Tiger Hills Health Centre Box 130 Treherne MB, R0G 2V0.
