Obituary

Audrey was born in Glenboro Manitoba July 1, 1922 and died in Salmon Arm BC Monday June 30, 2014 at the age of 91 years. Audrey was an intelligent, active woman who loved people and the outdoors. After finishing school in Glenboro she started nurse's training and took flying lessons in northern Manitoba until tuberculosis ended her hopes for a nursing career. After regaining her health she went to business school and worked in various locations in Manitoba. During this time she met Bert Johnson, they married and settled in Flin Flon. In 1960 they moved with us two daughters to Victoria BC where they settled. Mom grew a large garden, preserved large amounts of food, sewed and knitted clothes, and made every dollar stretch. She volunteered in her church and community, her love of nature led her to become an environmentalist and she also became a yoga teacher in her 50's. She looked after Dad at home during his years of decline through dementia, she didn't want him to have to leave his home. After Dad died in 2000, Mom sold the family home in 2002 and moved to an apartment in Sidney BC where she stayed until March of 2013. She moved to Salmon Arm at that time, in failing health, to be closer to family. Mom made friends wherever she went, she maintained those friendships to the end of her life. Her family and friends were the focus of her life, bringing her great joy. She is survived by her daughters Aleda (Lillooet BC) and Ferne (Salmon Arm BC), her sister-in-law Catherine Rogers of Glenboro, two large families (the Rogers and the Johnsons) of nieces, nephews, their children and grandchildren (and she knew all their names and birthdays too) and the numerous friends who cherish her memory. She was predeceased by her husband Bert (2000), parents Len & Edith Rogers, brothers Clinton & Don Rogers, sisters Lena (John & Jim) Steele, Dorothy (Doug) Elliott, Bessie (Stan) Malyon & Eileen (Harold) Jackson. Audrey touched many people during her long life, we're all glad to have known her. A Celebration of Audrey's life will be held on Friday August 14, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Glenboro United Church with Sharon Hamilton officiating. A family internment will take place prior to the service in the Glenboro Cemetery. Following the service, a reception will take place in the C.E. Building. Everyone is welcome.
