George Marcel Roeland of Mariapolis, MB passed away on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2015, at Lorne Memorial Hospital in Swan Lake, MB at the age of 92 years. Left to mourn George's passing are his daughter Noreen (Garry) Radford of Morinville, AB, son Grant of Trail B.C., daughter in law Shawna, grandchildren James (Koren), Patrick, Samantha, and Vanessa and great-grandchildren Bailey, Brynne, and Logan. He will also be missed by his Sisters-in-law Yvonne Roeland & Angele Fransoo, brother-in-law Marcel (Shirley) Fransoo, sister-in-law Eleanor Fransoo and many nieces, nephews and friends. George was predeceased by his wife Alice (nee Fransoo) in 2012, parents, Emile and Eliza Roeland, infant sister Germaine, brother Antoine, brothers-in-law Maurice, Gerard, & Charles and by sisters-in-law Margaret Epps & Madeleine Scheurebeke. George was born in the very house he lived until the last four years and received his schooling in St. Alphonse under the tutelage of the Ursuline nuns. He had a voracious love of reading and would have a stack of newspapers, magazines, etc by his chair and bed. His favorite subject was Geography which may have been the incentive to travel in his later years. It was often said that George had an incredible memory and in the later years enriched it with his knowledge of using the computer. George married Alice Fransoo on October 14, 1947, and they farmed together until their retirement. After farming, he worked for the Co-Op as a soil tester. This was a favorite time of his life. Imagine getting paid to visit with farmers, could there be anything better? Up to the present time, he loved going for rides in the countryside with his friend Lorne Gutscher, recounting who had lived on that quarter and who lived there now. Without any specific purpose, he would ask Ray Bourdeaud'hui if he wanted to go for a trip and away they would go enjoying the day. As a social person, George loved to volunteer on different boards and committees, discuss politics, attend different events in the community, play cards, and Belgium bowl. He also was a self-taught carpenter renovating their home and building cabinets with reclaimed UGG elevator wood. Most importantly, he was a Mariapolis man through and through. George lived a very full and happy life, but he will be missed. Who now will we call when we ask ... Do you know.....?
