It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ian Richmond Sholdice announce his passing. Ian was born on November 22, 1949 to Norman and Marie [Richmond] Sholdice. He was the youngest in the family of five children and was adored by his parents and siblings. He attended school at Cypress Valley and Cypress River, completing Grade 12 at John Taylor Collegiate in Winnipeg, after he and his parents had moved to the city. He received a Diploma in Agriculture in 1974 from the University of Manitoba. While studying he worked for Safeway, and later, in the oil fields of Alberta becoming a Tool Push on the drilling rigs. Meanwhile, he purchased the Alvin Johnston farm at Cypress River to begin his farming career. In later years he became a part time butcher in the Cypress River area. Ian enjoyed volunteering. His helpfulness radiated throughout the community in many ways. He worked with the Firemen and was proud to be a chef at functions in town, be it BBQ or pancakes. Ian acted as councillor for Municipality of Victoria. Throughout the years he enjoyed playing hockey, cards, curling, hunting, family gatherings, visiting with friends, and taking a spin around the neighbourhood to check out the crops. As his parent's health declined, he took on the bulk of the responsibility for their daily care. He was a giant of a man, with a big smile, a kind heart, and a crushing hand shake. He was a much loved son, brother, uncle and pal. He will be lovingly missed by his sisters Donna Lawrence, Norma [Neil] Wiechman, Mavis [Eric] Ott, and brother Wally [Marnie] Sholdice. He will also be remembered by nieces and nephews, Debbie [Marc] Carriere, Nola [Rob] Praznik, Ian [Lynne] Wiechman, Lori [Dale] Uskoski, Darryl Wiechman [Caroline], Jennie [Robb] Shipley, Erin [Joe]Payne, Meaghan [Grant] Farhall, Greg [Carol] Ott, Sandra Ott [Darcy Beer], as well as several great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his uncle Robbie [Edith] Richmond, aunt Doreen Richmond, as well as many Richmond and Sholdice cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers-in-law Allan Turnbull and John Lawrence, as well as a stillborn niece, Heidi Turnbull. The family would like to thank Horace Sholdice, Marvin Arason, Sue Richmond, the First Responders and the RCMP. To Commemorate Ian's Life, a reception will take place on Saturday August 1, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Cypress River Memorial Hall. A family graveside service will be held at the Glencoe Cemetery prior to the reception with Sandra Rex officiating.
