Jim was born in Holland, Manitoba on October 6, 1949. He attended Holland Elementary School and Treherne Collegiate as well as the University of Manitoba. Jim participated in curling and various sports over the years... always enjoyed life to the fullest ... earning him the nickname "Sides". He Married Linda Sue McKee on April 14, 1973. They started their life together on the Sundell family farm south of Holland where they raised their two children, Jamie and Terry. In 1989 they moved closer to another section of land that they farmed, east of Holland. Jim took great pride in his work on the farm as a grain and cattle farmer. He especially enjoyed the breeding and showing of his cattle and took an active part in the Simmental Association for several years. As his children grew, Jim took a great interest in their sporting activities, following them around the province watching and coaching mainly curling, baseball, and hockey. He was their Number One Fan. From 1996 to 2006 Jim joined his brother in law and best friend Roy driving truck for Paul's Hauling, thoroughly enjoying his experiences on the winter roads. In the later years Jim semi-retired, allowing him to spend more time with family and friends. He and Linda spent their summers at Lake 7 with family and close friends... the Lazy Lizards, and their winters at their condo in Puerto Vallarta where many friendships flourished. Jim always welcomed friends and neighbours to the cabin and the condo...He loved any excuse to get together....He especially enjoyed the weekly get togethers during the winter with friends at the "Oasis" and playing ladder ball and bocce ball games on the beach... "Adiós mis amigos..." Jim lived his life for his family....he was our "Rock" and "Mentor". His pride and joy were his grandchildren, Payton, Keagan and Liam. He was always full of jokes and brought constant smiles to their faces. They will miss the countless hours he spent taking them for quad and sea-doo rides, tubing at the lake, checking the cattle, and sharing a bowl of ice-cream. Jim enjoyed immensely his fishing and quading trips with friends and his son, Terry. He continued to work on the farm with the cattle with his close friend, neighbour and "adopted son" Red. Jim will be remembered for his big-heartedness and willingness to help others. He was a universal friend ....Most of all we will miss his generosity, his contagious smile, and that twinkle in his eye... He Is Gone, by David Harkins You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he lived, You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him Or you can be full of the love that you shared, You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he is gone Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on, You can cry and close your mind be empty and turn your back, Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
