Obituary

Passed away at the Victoria General Hospital in Victoria B.C. on Monday September 14, 2015 at the age of 69 years, Robert James "Jim" Westwood of Victoria B.C., formerly of Souris & Glenboro MB. Jim was born in Ottawa, Ontario on April 17, 1946. His dad William James Westwood (Bill) met his Mom, Margaret Irene Lowrie in Brighton England during WWII. They married and she came to Canada as a War Bride. His dad was career military and when Jim was six the family moved from Ottawa to Chilliwack, BC, then back to Petewawa, Ontario and then to Montreal. Jim joined the military when he was 18 and trained as a medic. He did two tours in Germany where his two sons John & Glenn were born. Following Germany he was signed to the First Canadian Field Ambulance in Ontario and following that was moved to Winnipeg and Gypsumville. He completed his Health Care Administration at the University of Saskatchewan and was hired for the Executive Director position of Glenboro Hospital. He was there for over 20 years and brought Baldur, Glenboro, Treherne and Wawanesa under one umbrella. Following regionalization Jim became Vice President of Support Services for the Southwest Regional Health & retired in 2000. He then worked for Holiday Retirement at Riverheights Terrace in Brandon, Primrose Chateau in Saskatoon, Prince George Chateau in Prince George B.C. and The Victorian at McKenzie in Victoria as building manager. He retired from that position in 2010, however, they pulled him back into the fold and for the past five years he has travelled across Canada filling in for Managers on leave or ill and for training Managers. Jim is survived by his wife Shelley (nee Brindley), sons John and wife Candice and their sons Koen (10) and Taj (18 months) of Tofino, BC and Glenn and his children Konner (18) and Berlin (16) of Burnaby, BC; stepsons Adam Ross and his children Alexa (8) and Jaxen (5) of Red Deer and Liam Ross and wife Heather of Brandon; brothers Danny (Lynn) White Rock, BC and George (Carol) Burlington, Ontario; sister Mary Westwood-Hunting of Burlington, Ontario and sister-in-law Val of Oakville, Ontario; mother-in-law Joyce Brindley of Glenboro; sister and brother-in-law Arlie and Moray Jamieson of Glenboro, former wife Jacqueline Chamberland (Mark Garand) of Ucluelet B.C. and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Bill & Margaret Westwood, brother John Westwood and brother-in-law Henry Hunting. A Memorial Service will he held at the Victorian at McKenzie, 4000 Douglas Street, Victoria B.C., on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Jim's life will be held on Tuesday September 22, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Willmor Chapel, Glenboro MB with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in the Glenboro Cemetery. Friends that so desire, memorial donations can be made in Jim's memory to the John Tosh Memorial Fund, Box 219 Glenboro MB R0K 0X0 or to a charity of choice.
