It is with sadness we announce that on August 10, 2015, Mikie, age 69, after a year long struggle with cancer passed away peacefully in the gentle care of the Glenboro Hospital, Glenboro, Manitoba. Mikie was born December 4, 1945 on a farm north of Roblin, Manitoba in the Hillsburg/Timber District to parents Mike and Mary (Fedorchuk). Predeceasing Mikie were, brother Marx and his son Sean, brother-in-law Joe Matewish and his son Myles and niece Diana (Heise), daughter of brother Oliver and wife Carol. He leaves to be lovingly remembered by, his sister Veronica and her husband Norman Stilkowski and daughter Jamie; sister Mary Ann Matewish and her children Michelle, Joel and Maurisa; past brother Marx's family, wife Sandra and children Michael, Rose, Nolan, Gary and Carlene and friend Jean and her son Leon; and brother Oliver and wife Carol (Krushkowski) and son Kevin. Also remembering Mikie are many children of his nieces and nephews and cousins scattered across the country and aunts Nellie Wojcik and Anne Sauve, as well as all his friends and neighbours in Glenboro. Mikie lived with his parents in Winnipeg until they passed away, then moved to Glenboro in 1997 to live with his sister Veronica and her husband Norman Stilkowski and their family (Sydney and JC with their pets Bear and Harley). Mikie's stories will live forever through his grand niece Sydney and grand nephew JC as they heard them many times over. Everytime he told a story it was like he was telling it for the first time. Mikie loved his best friend Merv Pinkerton whom he spent a lot of time shooting the breeze about fishing and the perceived problems about town. Mikie was a gentle and affectionate person and friendly with anyone he met and quickly accepted the comfort of living in a small town. He loved being outdoors with nature and looking after pets and enjoyed biking, fishing and hunting and tinkering with and modifying everything he owned. But his favourite past time was probably endless shopping and recalling and talking about past life events and joking with and teasing anyone that permitted it. He was proud to be a resident of Glenboro and always talking about the PEOPLE and BUSINESSES there. "We express our gratitude to the residents of Glenboro for their kind understanding and friendliness shown to him." We also especially "THANK" Dr. W. Swanepoel for all his years of medical attention and the staff at the Glenboro Hospital for giving Mikie such good care during his last days. Thanks also to Mikie's niece, Rose, for spending so much time at the Brandon Hospital to help him. We also wish to "Thank" Moray Jamieson and his staff at Willmor Chapel for their understanding, patience, and helpfulness at this trying time. Cremation has taken place. A private family internment will take place at the Argyle cemetery, Argyle, Manitoba at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to the Glenboro Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Box 310, Glenboro MB R0K-0X0.
