Norman was born November 9, 1936 in Vita, MB. He was the only child of Bill and Pauline Melnychuk. His courageous battle with cancer ended peacefully on Thursday June 19, 2014 at the Glenboro Hospital. Norman's mother passed away when he was a young boy leaving him in the care of his father. Norman moved from the farm in Cartwright to Wawanesa in 1961 where he was employed with Manitoba Hydro, Nichols Transfer and Manitoba Pool Elevators before his permanent employment with Manitoba Hydro began in 1972. Norman married Diane Moore on November 25, 1967 in Pilot Mound, MB and became part of the large Moore family. Norman and Diane's daughter Christine was born in 1969 followed by Tim in 1971. Norman retired in 1999 and was most proud of his 25 year safety record with Manitoba Hydro. Norman enjoyed curling, baseball with the Treesbank Tigers, golfing with special friends Neil and Joan Cline, and visiting with Malcolm and Leona Campbell. Norman and Diane enjoyed fishing and travelling to Penticton B.C. in later life when retirement afforded those things. Norman especially enjoyed being a Grandpa to Tayler, Ryland, Alaura and Sam and had a keen interest in what each of his grandchildren were doing. Norman could be seen on a daily basis driving around in his truck seeing what the little town of Wawanesa was up to. Norman was predeceased by his parents William ( Bill) (1975) and Pauline ( nee Waskul) (1944); his father in law Earl( Si) and mother-in-law Irene, brothers-in-law MacKay, Art, Jim, Michael and sister-in-law Gwen. Norman leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Diane (nee Moore), daughter Christine Jefferies and husband Terry, Tayler and Ryland of Stockton, and son Tim and wife Vicki ( nee Wytinck), Alaura and Sam of Wawanesa; as well as other extended family and special friends. A Celebration of Norman's life will held Monday June 23, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Willmor Chapel, Glenboro, with a private family interment in the Wawanesa Cemetery. Officiating clergy will be Rev. Mark Murray of the St. Paul's Anglican Church of Wawanesa. Hymns will be "Shall we Gather at the River" and "Onward Christian Soldiers". Following the celebration of Norman's life, family and friends are invited to the Wawanesa Centennial Hall for a memorial luncheon hosted by the St. Paul's Anglican Church. Memorial tributes may be directed to St. Paul's Anglican Church, c/o Lillian Trowbridge, Wawanesa MB R0K 2G0 or the Glenboro Palliative Care Unit, Box 310, Glenboro MB R0K 0X0 or to a charity of one's choice.
