Verna Wilton of Glenboro MB, formerly of Brandon & Sinclair MB, beloved wife of the late Howard Wilton, passed away on Wednesday February 12, 2014 at the Glenboro Personal Care Home at the age of 92 years. Verna was born October 9, 1921 in Winnipeg MB to Fred & Thora Frederickson. She grew up in Glenboro & graduated from Glenboro High School, then went on to Success Business College in Wpg. Upon completion she was employed at Investors Syndicate from 1943 to 1945. On June 10, 1945, Verna married Howard Wilton of Glenboro after he returned home from RCAF service overseas. They moved to Sinclair MB where Howard was employed as a grain buyer for Manitoba Pool Elevators until 1982. They spent their retirement years in Brandon MB. Howard passed away Feb. 24, 1992. Verna moved back to Glenboro in October 2011 and resided there until her passing. Verna was an active member of the United Church in Sinclair & Brandon Central United. She enjoyed singing in the choir and as a gifted soloist she sang at many weddings & funerals. As a Canadian Legion member she sang "In Flanders Fields" at many Remembrance Day services. Verna enjoyed oil painting and photography. She loved compiling photo albums of her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. Left to mourn Verna's passing are her sons Turner (Debbie) of Edmonton AB, Mark (Rhonda) of Virden, Scott (Daun) of Edmonton, Ward (Elaine) of Balmoral MB & daughter Rhonda (Russel) Thiessen of Abbotsford B.C., grandchildren Corey (Tammy), Christy (Steven), Marnie (Gilbert), Shannon (Brett), Shawn, Jason (Sue), Ryan (Sheila), Tara (Woody), Tracie, Shawna (Dave), Michael (Emmanuel), Tyler (Leanne); and great grandchildren Nicholas, Brody, Makenna, Jessie, Mekai, Kianna, Brandon, Matthew, Ashleigh, Julia, Marcail, David, Nicholas, Danielle, Ivan, Eastan, Kholt, Tanner, Lucas & Nolan. Verna is also survived by her sister Elvina Jamieson & brother Allan "Friday" (Bernice) Frederickson of Glenboro as well as numerous nieces, nephews & friends. Verna was predeceased by her husband Howard, parents Fred & Thora (nee Sigurdson) Frederickson, brother Turner (Eileen) Frederickson and brother-in-law Bill Jamieson. Funeral services were held in the Willmor Chapel, Glenboro MB, on Monday February 17, 2014 with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Interment followed in the Glenboro Cemetery.
