Wes Lawrence of Treherne, MB passed away at the Tiger Hills Manor in Treherne, MB on Saturday July 11, 2015 at the age of 96 years. Wes leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife Thelma (nee Catte) of Treherne, MB, sons Ken (Pat) Lawrence of Treherne, MB and Gary (Rita) Lawrence of Winnipeg, MB, daughter Linda (Larry) Lamb of Emo, ON, 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews & friends. Wes was born to Bart & Minnie Lawrence in 1918. His mother died 2 or 3 weeks after he was born, and he was raised by his grandmother and uncle. He & his elder brother Lindsay lived on various mixed farms. Wes always enjoyed animals, and as a young boy he loved to milk the cows, and feed the pigs and chickens. Wes attended Arbroath school & later Matchetville school until grade eight. Wes worked for his uncle as a farm laborer. He met Thelma Catte & they were married on December 22, 1943. They then purchased land and built their home north of Treherne where they raised their family and farmed together for over 70 years. Wes was also an avid curler, bowler and ball player. Wes rented his farm land out in later years, but he continued to help out, and always enjoyed his time at the farm. He loved his farm home and his garden, and he always kept busy mowing grass and blowing snow. In the fall of 2014, Thelma moved into Tiger Hills Manor, and Wes visited her as often as possible. Wes was a farmer at heart, and always lived his life 'one day at a time.' Wes was predeceased by his parents Bartholomew and Minnie (nee Graham) Lawrence, and his brother Lindsay (May) Lawrence. Funeral services were held on Saturday July 18, 2015 at 11:00 am in the Treherne United Church. Heather Grobb officiating. Private family interment in the Woodlands Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Wes' memory to the Treherne United Church, 168 Boyne St., Treherne, MB R0G 2V0. The family would like to thank all of Dad's friends and neighbours who helped him out during these last few years. A special thanks to the Home Care staff who visited Dad every day, and to the doctors and hospital staff for their kindness.
