Dorothy H. Pritchard was born to William & Mary Pritchard on November 2, 1920 in the Indianford District at Rathwell, MB, the youngest of a family of seven children.

On June 14, 1941, she married Garth Young of the Selton District, Cypress River, MB.  Together they raised a family of three children, Marlene, Mary & Bill on the home farm.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Garth (1997), daughter Mary Jones, three grandsons Patrick, Ron & Delmar, son-in-law Walter Arndt, brothers Lawrence, Tom, Jim, Jack & Walter and by a sister Maggie.

She is survived by her daughter Marlene Arndt of Regina, SK, son Bill & wife Wendy of Cypress River, MB,, eight grandchildren Debbie (Rob), Lisa, Mathew (Annette), Dan (Becky), Sheri, Ryan (Natasha), Julie and Nicholas (Kelsey), eleven great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.

In 1971, Bill married Wendy Anderson, so Dorothy gained not only another daughter, but Wendy’s mother Rebe who was to become a lifetime friend.  They shared many great times together, trips for ice cream, ballgames, curling and of course many times playing Bingo.  Together they worked on many community events such as Bingo & the Newsletter.  One of their special times was to go out after supper west of town to listen to the frogs sing their evening chorus.

Dorothy will always be remembered for her love and care for her family and friends.  One of her special times was to hear Sheri play the piano and keyboard.  Her and Rebe attended many Music Fest to enjoy Sheri’s music. She had a special place in her heart for nephew David and her friends Debbie Smith, Else and Jim Cassels and their two girls, Kimberley and Emile.  Her door was always open to welcome family, friends and neighbors and all visitors.  You could always be sure of a cup of coffee or tea and a treat of her own baking.  Her love of flowers, Violets on the window table, Begonias, Roses and Lady Slippers in the flowers beds.

She enjoyed Bingo, floor shuffleboard, scrabble and jig-saw puzzles; she was a tough opponent and even as younger opponents found out she would NEVER just let you win, you had to earn it.

The cookie jar was always full, and many will remember her special Butterscotch Pie, this was Ryan’s favorite pie; home canned chicken and dill pickles & Vena Torte.  We will always remember the jars filled with home canned fruit & vegetables, especially tomatoes, and jars of canned beef and chicken.  Her hands were never idle, fresh bread, buns & homemade donuts when we came off the school bus in the afternoon.  Her shortbread was a real treat and was a gift to her grandsons for Christmas (They really didn’t like to share.) Many ball players, curlers and hockey players will remember many of these special treats.

Dorothy was active in community work being on the original teams for Cypress River Bingo club and Newsletter and always willing to provide help for many community events held at the church, hall and rink where her treats of baking were always enjoyed.  She was astounded to have one of her butterscotch pies sell for $45 at one of the church fundraisers, said she never dreamt a pie would be worth that much.  A special treat for her was to take a drive around the country, especially in the spring to see all the new calves; in summer to view the crops & in fall to see the awesome fall colors.

She will be missed by all her family, friends and neighbors.

Bill, Wendy and Marlene would like to thank all who shared in her life’s blessings.  Many thanks to all her friends who took time to visit with her and to all the Home Care personnel and the staff of the Baldur & Glenboro Personal Care Homes for your devoted care to our mom and grandma.
