Marcel Arthur Almey

Marcel passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Valley View Care Home in Brandon.  Marcel was born on January 29, 1941, the oldest child of August and Angele Almey.  He had three sisters, Marcella, Rosalia and Grace.  The family lived in the Swan Lake and Mariapolis areas.

Marcel settled in his home north east of Baldur, where he grain and cattle farmed.  In 1973, he was joined there by his partner Ruth Legal.  Marcel enjoyed life on the farm, and along with farming his own half section, he did custom baling and combining.  Amongst his cattle herd, he had some pure bred Charolais cattle.

In his younger years, Marcel enjoyed fishing and hunting.  Especially in the winter, he and Ruth enjoyed playing card games such as Bean with his sister Marcella and her husband George, and later with Marcella and nephew Gerry, or with some friends that lived close by.

In the early 2000’s Marcel and Ruth sold their land in Baldur and moved to a property south of Brandon.  He spent his last few years at Valleyview Long Term Care Home in Brandon.

Marcel is predeceased by his parents August and Angele Almey (nee Blomme), his sister Marcella Dousselaere, brother in law George Dousselaere, and brother in law Maurice Lussier.

Marcel is survived by his partner of 50 plus year, Ruth Legal; sisters Grace Lussier and Rosalia Tarko, special nieces and nephews Gerry (Cheryl) Dousselaere, Stephanie (Gilles) Poirier, Alyssa Dousselaere (Jeremie Grenier) and Barb (Larry Fluker).   He also leaves to remember him several other nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbours.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11 am in the Willmor Chapel, Jamieson’s Funeral Service, Glenboro, MB.  Internment to follow at St. Alphonse Cemetery.  Donations in Marcel’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
