Surrounded by her family at the Tiger Hills Health Centre on Sunday December 22, 2019, at the age of 82 years, Nellie DeGraeve, formerly Henry (nee Bocek) of Holland MB.

Nellie’s life will be forever cherished by her son Dan Henry (Darcy Penner) of Holland, MB, daughter Laura Henry (Roy Rodrigues) of Oshawa ON, brother Peter (Julie) Bocek of Fisher Branch MB as well as extended relatives & friends including her dear nephew Troy (Nancy) Moorehead of Carberry, MB. Nellie was predeceased by her parents Adolph & Paraska Bocek, sisters Mary (Doug) Neighbour, Anne (Dave) Rutledge and Alice (Ken) Moorehead.

Although Nellie was proud of her career as a teacher (Lavenham & Rossendale), a business owner (L & Nell’s Drive-In Restaurant in McGregor), and a cook at the Hollander Hotel, her most treasured times were with family and friends. She was inspired by her parents’ focus on hard work and the value of education and both guided her throughout her life. Nellie will be remembered for her love of spending time with her children, family and close friends. Favourite memories include stopping in to Dan’s to watch him fix old cars and bikes, and visiting Laura and her husband Roy in Toronto. Nellie had a quiet but avid sense of humor and enjoyed classic old time comedies and sharing or hearing a good (clean!) joke. She loved playing cards, doing crosswords, going for coffee, cooking, vegetable gardening and the occasional trip to the casino.

Nellie firmly believed that life is for the living, and asks dear friends and family to celebrate happy memories, live every day, and ‘give themselves a hug’ from her. While we are saddened by her passing and she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on forever in our hearts.

Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service will take place at a later date in the Rossendale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial donations in Nellie's memory to the Holland Emmanuel Friends Inc, c/o Colleen Steinke, Box 236, Holland MB or to the Holland & Area Community Foundation Inc, Box 87, Holland MB R0G 0X0 ( search ‘Holland’).

Nellie’s family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at Tiger Hills Health Centre for both the care and the compassion that she received.

I/ we enjoyed her stories she would tell when she came for coffee when we owned the hotel. Was a very thoughtful lady. Always had a story of when she was working at the hotel. Nell enjoyed her bingo and playing the machines at the hotel. Will forever be missed. Sorry for your loss Dan, Laura and families....... Glenn & June Negrich

I can't believe she is gone--I'm devastated--will miss her phone calls. She phoned me on November 26th to wish me Merry Christmas and Happy New Year early she said (did she know some thing)--I wonder. We were room mates in the old Notre Dame hospital after not seeing each other for some time. Was great to catch up and she had lots of jokes to tell. Never complained about any thing just hit it head on. Rest in peace sweetheart--it is your turn. Love to all.

My most sincere condolences go out to Nellie's family. I knew Nellie because she had owned the home next to mine years ago. She was always so friendly and was never without a welcoming smile on her face whenever I saw her. Nellie will be very missed.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. She was a wonderful and caring person. We worked hard together but had a lot of laughs along the way. She helped me in many ways. I will miss her dearly. Remember your memories will be with you always. I know there was nothing more important to her than you both. My thoughts and prayers are with you
